Doa Making Workshop
This workshop is for PNG woman living in the Sunshine Coast or Brisbane areas.
We have beautiful bilas styles across our home in Papua New Guinea. Doa, is the motu word for the single or double pig tusk necklace bound together and suspended from a string of shell (red spondylus or white shell) and coconut shell. For many many years these beautiful shells have been replaced with a circular plastic disc.
Bring along your Doa and learn how to breath new life into it. I will teach you how to cut off your plastic discs and replace them with colourful shell discs. We will be doing this while sitting with elders from our local Papuan community as we share a meal and hear their memories and cultural knowledge about protocols, beliefs and practices for making or wearing Doa
